Driven by the wind

The project "Driven by the Wind" was started in the beginning of 2008 with the ambition to favour wind and automotive industrial implications in Sweden. Long going discussions have been held with investors to stimulate investments in Sweden. In addition, the ambition is to launch and introduce electrical vehicles driven by wind power in Sweden. To accelerate the introduction of electric vehicles offers the automotive industry the possibility to embrace new market positions and the wind power industry new incitements for investments and enhanced acceptance from public. Power Circle has during this year accomplished a cooperation never seen before between a car industry in crisis and a flourishing energy industry. The Swedish automotive industry needs an injection of new technologies and fresh ideas to once again become a leading automotive industry.

During 2008 Power Circle has identified thirteen test sites across Sweden for electrical cars. Energy companies, municipalities and local entrepreneurs are creating new concepts with electrical cars driven by wind. The local support is crucial in the projects where Power Circle can be seen as a catalyst, whereby the identification of a local project leader is a milestone event. Another important point is to form a local platform of stakeholders.

In the project "Driven by the Wind" thirteen demo sites have been identified across Sweden with an original goal of 1000 electrical cars at the end of 2010. The ultimate vision is 600 000 plug-in or electric vehicles at the end of 2020. This vision supports the Swedish car industry, but above all give us a reduction of the Swedish carbon dioxide emissions from the car stock with 20 percent! We are today in a very exciting phase where several of the demo sites get there first cars and are on their way to reach their goals. In parallel strong support has been given to restructuring and developing of Swedish basal wind industry.

Purpose

The purpose with this project is to support and enhance the introduction of electrical cars driven by wind and with this goal accomplish an environmental friendly car stock in combination with development of wind power and car industry in Sweden.

Project leader is Christer Asplund. The project will be terminated during 2009 and will be replaced by two other projects that will continue the development on both electric vehicles and wind power. The project Driven by the wind have delivered excellent results and the project goals are fulfilled.
