Background

Strengthen Swedish Electric Power

For more than 100 years Sweden has been one of the worlds leading nations in electric power technology development. Through working closely with the government and industry, new and groundbreaking technical solutions have been found and significant power technology problems have been solved. Successful solutions and new innovation have been developed in projects with researchers and engineers from both Swedish companies and universities joining forces.

Sweden has been pioneering the use of electricity with alternating current and high voltage direct current (AC & HVDC), nuclear power, electrically powered trains (RC, X2, and Regina), as well as for many years developed highly integrated systems software managing the countries electrical power grids and its power stations (TIDAS and FACTS).

This has given Sweden and its electricity power transmission and electricity supply system world class attention amongst Power companies. It has led to Sweden having a very competitive advantage for such global companies as Stora Enso, SSAB and Akzo Nobel. Other companies to mention who has benefitted from Swedish power technology development are ABB, Alstom, and Areva - all examples of world leading companies that deliver technology within electrical engineering and transmission technology. Bombardier Transportation, Volvo CE and Atlas Copco are additional companies that are in the technological forefront when it comes to development of heavy vehicles and machinery. Sweden is also the home of the great electricity producers Vattenfall and E.ON, both have increasingly become internationally well renouned for its Power technology know-how and effective management of electricity demand.

If we look a little bit into the future Sweden's leading position is not as certain. We have to continue our efforts of collaboration and focus attention to joint project to reach result in new power technology innovation. If doing so, following our track record we can continue and make certain the next 100 years can become at least equally as successful - but this can only occur if we act based on the common interests of knowing that it helps us all to stay ahead of global competition also in the future.

Over 100,000 people today are engaged in the questions regarding improving electrical transmission and power generation in Sweden. There are a similar amount of individuals involved in working within other traditional fields of Swedish natural resources. Due to our significant number of professionals with deep knowledge in power technology and transmission several internationally known companies have based their research, development and manufacturing in Sweden.

It is not without reason that ABB, Bombardier, and Alstom are in Sweden; the power technology for the future is here. It is also not without reason that Sweden arguably has one of the world's best and most stable electrical network's. We strongly believe this comes from a long tradition of close collaboration and exchange of know-how amongst Swedish based very competent and qualified engineers, R&D and a strong, competent and loyal workforce.

Power Circle strongly believes the Swedish proven tradition of seeking joint efforts between the industry and community put forth towards workable, innovative solutions is how we have been successful in the past. The strong connection and collaborative open style of trying to find technical solutions is not to be taken for granted. To foster collaboration between industry and community, initiate efforts towards new innovations is making sure we continue taking a lead in the world offering effective power generation and transmission solutions. We see this as the foundations of our organization and the reason why Power Circle was established. We see our role as to continue, enhance and accelerate the progress base on this tradition of cooperation driving innovation.

In the last few years much energy has been put into linking together the entire network of key stakeholders and leading cutting edge knowledge under the trademark Power Circle. We believe we have a good base together with our members and stakeholder influence the future of Power generation, technology and its effective distribution.

It is through Power Circle that we shall continue to make the Swedish electrical energy industry visible and to work towards electrical energy supporting a positive and sustainable development.

Green Highway

Sundsvall-Östersund and Trondheim municipalities collaborate in three areas which may contribute to a positive development within the municipalities.  Green Highway and the electric car project is one part in the effort to develop the infrastructure and valid communications.

Green Highway is a venture to create a green transport axis along a renewable energy belt, including investments in electric vehicles, charging infrastructure, renewable fuels, testing and development, as well as building up and spreading knowledge of this.
